Finding a tire that excels year-round can be tough as most tires are optimized for a specific range of conditions. Successful all-rounders do exist though, and the WTB Ranger TCS TriTec Tire is one of them. It's designed for cross country and trail riding on a wide range of Earth's surfaces. From dry and dusty hard pack to wet loam or mud, the Ranger stays planted regardless of the terrain. The Ranger uses lower-profile center lugs to keep the rolling resistance to a minimum on fast, dry trails. The pattern is more spread out though, to quickly shed mud in wetter conditions. The lugs are siped to ensure there is no shortage of traction when accelerating and braking, with more pronounced side lugs that hook up confidently in loose corners. The tire is made of WTB's new TriTec rubber compound that uses triple-density rubber to balance grip and rolling speed across varying conditions. The base rubber is hard to prevent folding or squirming, with medium stiffness rubber on the center lugs for balanced handling, and softer rubber on the side lugs to deliver maximum grip and slow rebound while cornering. The High Grip option is more compliant rubber which, you guessed it, priorities grip. The Fast Rolling option still grips well, but uses a harder rubber that prioritizes rolling speed and lasts longer. The rubber compound is supported by a single-ply casing on the TCS Light versions to save weight, with a dual-ply casing on the TCS Tough versions that better resists flats. That being said, the TCS Light casing sees the addition of a new nylon Slash Guard on the sidewalls, making it no slouch in the puncture protection department.
