Red Ledge is known for offering cutting edge outdoor apparel at an affordable price and the Thunderlight full side zip pant is no exception. Our own patented T-Core® waterproof/breathable coating is applied to lightweight rip-stop nylon taffeta in conjunction with a DWR (Durable Water Repellant) finish. The Thunderlight full side zip pant features include an elasticized waistband with an adjustable draw cord and adjustable Velcro® side tabs. If removing your shoes or boots in order to don a pair of rain pants is not an option for you, the full leg side zippers come in handy and each have interior and exterior storm flaps for superior protection from the elements. The knees are articulated for ease of movement and there are adjustable Velcro® tabs at the cuffs to customize the fit. As with all our Thunderlight products, this pant comes in it’s own mesh stuff sack for easy storage and portability; but if you’re not a stuff sack sort of person, this pant also will pack into it’s own zippered back pocket. Weight: 12.5 oz. Be sure to check out our Men’s and Women’s Thunderlight Parkas!
Let me start with how these fit. I'm 5'3", 131 pounds. I usually wear a size 6, regular length, in slacks. I purchased a size small. I am neither exceptionally skinny or fat in the waist (33.5" waist), and the measurement over my butt is 37". I wore these rain pants over a pair of leggings and hiking pants. They were a bit tight to pull up over my butt, but once on, fit quite well. On to waterproof. I bought these for my Alaskan vacation which was wonderful, BTW. I had exceptionally sunny weather for all but two days. That said, I had a very good opportunity to try these pants out on two rainy days in a kayak. I am happy to report they kept me perfectly dry!! I look forward to using them hiking as the side zippers work great for on and off over my hiking boots.
Great affordable rain pants! Okay here is the scoop on sizing (for men! I can't speak for women). I ordered both small and large to compare
I bought these pants for a trip to Antarctica - ship highly recommended waterproof pants as an outer layer. They fit perfectly and the leg zippers allowed easy on/off with boots. They helped block the wind as well. I am now wearing them for snow shoveling - they fit great as an outer layer and keep me dry (especially with wet snow and/or when it turns to rain). Plus compared to some of the brands that we looked at - these are reasonably priced.
Ended up using the large after first trying the medium, to make sure it fit easily over whatever pants I had on underneath, but generally the sizing was good. These are not the most flattering, but they really, really work - wore them all day while hiking in the rain in Iceland, and I was the only member of my hiking party who returned with dry legs (couldn't say the same for my top - wish they offered a matching rain jacket).
Shipping was quick (via Prime). There is a slight chemical smell that I imagine will dissipate with use. Came in a carrying bag that is nice for storage. The pants are very wide legged. Each leg has a full zipper - awesome so I don’t have to remove my boots to take the pants off. Velcro closures at the bottom and hip. The waist is extremely small. There’s a pull cord to adjust the size, but I will never need to use it. I tried the pants on with leggings underneath and while they fit - they’d be uncomfortable if I were to take a long hike. They’ll work for what I need them for (chasing my puddle stomping kiddos). I got a medium and consider myself average height and weight. I think a large would have been too long so I’m sticking with the small waisted, but perfect in length medium.
Yeah these things are awesome, transforming my outdoor life. I can put them on and take them off over any footwear. If I have skis on, I don't even need to take the skis off! And they really make me a lot warmer because they're very effective at being windbreakers and keeping me dry. I am not sure they are 100% waterproof. I have not worn them for hours and hours in a downpour to test that. But I wore them while skiing in the rain and I was completely dry underneath them. Also they are big enough to fit a lot of clothing underneath, but not so big as to be baggy and get caught on things or make me trip. I can fit long underwear and thick wool pants under them. Now I can do fun things outside in just any weather.
I'm a deckhand on a ferry boat, so good rain gear is a must. These rain pants fit well, are durable and, most importantly, continue to provide good protection from the elements. After quite a bit of research, these rain pants seem to be some of the better quality for the price.
Rain pants that zip all the way up so you can put on over your hiking shoes. Velcro at the ankles. These are not just water resistant but are real rain paints that will keep you dry. I am 5’4 140lbs. I’m a size 8 and ordered the medium. Easily goes on over my hiking clothes. So easy to fold and put back in the bag.
use for cycling , excellent quality material , zipper on both leg for easy removal is a fantastic option . Protect very wall under heavy rain ! Recommended product !
They have full zip legs for easy pull up over other pants and wonderful velcro closure straps at the waist. Only negative comment is that the fabric is very noisy to wear!
Rolls up real small
