I am not tiger woods or close. You probably aren’t either. I am not skilled or practiced enough to hit a flop shot consistently to within a few feet. Trying to do this with a $100 fancy wedge often leads to me going over a green, duffing it, skulling it, and on the off chance that the lie is favorable and I make nice contact, it still isn’t that close.

Enter the 30 dollar Wilson chipper. It doesn’t care about the lie, you just hit it like a putter and it will jump the rough and fringe and just run. You don’t have to do anything but read the green and putt. Let the club do the work. I’m not timid around the green anymore afraid to knock it over or duff it. I’m not trying to get it close now, I attack the pin with the expectation that I might hole it out and I do! I had more chip ins this week than I have in months and many more near misses and lip outs.

The only downside is that your golf buddies are going to want their own when you whip them up and down greens all weekend. I already have a friend copying me.

It’s not lofted enough to get out of traps with lips but I wouldn’t do that anyways. If the shot can be bumped and run to the hole, this club is deadly, lots better than using a 7 iron to run.

I decided to try a chipper after watching an old golf friend become absolutely deadly with one from 50 yds and in. Tried several chippers in golf stores, but they all were so heavy with a big head and they didn't feel right. This head is a normal putter sized head and makes it easy for using a putter swing for the chipping, yet if I have to chip it further, can swing it a bit more aggressively to cover the required distance. I'm a 10 Index and was a decent chipper using various irons, but after a bit of experimenting and use with this, my chipping is at a whole new level. Much better than using a hybrid, or iron as you don't have to choke down and/or close the club when chipping as this is a putter length (or you can cut it down to your putter length). In fact one of my golf friends is now looking at a chipper after playing a few rounds with me and saw how my chipping really improved.

This Wilson chipper replaced an old chipper I've been using for years which I lost. I loved my old no-name chipper. I could hit it over hazzards up tp 40 yds and put the ball near the hole. And I could chip with it near the green with terrific accuracy. I've played 5 rounds with the Wilson and haven't been able to hit my new chipper nearly as well. The Wilson is a nice club, but my old club was weighted differently and I found it easier to control. I think the Wilson is made nicely and may be fine for other players. It's just not suited to me.

The Wilson chipper has been a welcome addition to my bag. The head is heavy and the club moves through different surfaces easily. I use it to chip as far away as 25-30 yards and just off the green. The key is to take a backswing similar to a putter. Because of the heavy head, the club can be used like a lob wedge to hit over bunkers between you and the hole with ample clearance. I've also discovered that this chipper can be used in bunkers near the green where the sand is hard-packed and the ball is on top of the sand. I still use a SW and GW for longer shots and use this club when they would be too much club. A very versatile club for the price!

Update July 3, 2020:
At a practice bunker I use frequently, I was struggling with my sand wedge. Most of the surface is packed down so as not to provide enough sand to carry the ball out. I decided to experiment with the Wilson
Chipper. With an easy putting stroke backswing and accelerating follow through, the ball flies out of the sand on a high percentage of shots.

I always had great chip shots for the green as long as I wasn't too close. My 10 foot chips would turn into the club blading the ball and shooting it over the green. With this chipper I can relax and easily put them on the green and with unbelievable accuracy! Out of 25 chips with it I have been within 6 inches of the hole on 18 of them so far. The others were maybe a foot or tad bit more. I have used this for chipping out of rough grass (2-3 inch high) and it just requires an extra bit of swing but it can be done easily.
Now as others say the paint is lacking. Its already coming off the bottom but I'm not using it for looks myself. I played my best round ever with it and its permanently in my bag now.

Love this little club! Did it replace my gap wedge? No. BUT, where it really comes in handy is if you are a 100 yds or less from the green and you have bunkers on each side and you can't be right or left. You can pretty much be guaranteed to shoot the ball dead center down the middle. ( or close enough ) I will always use this club within a 100yds of the green regardless of danger unless I need a lot of loft or have to stop the ball suddenly after contact with the ground. I keep the ball about 16" in front of my shoulder width feet, choke up on the club and go straight back and straight downswing thru contact. You just have to remember this club is equal to about a 7 iron so it puts a lot of speed on the ball. Great bump and run club too but you really have to dial down your swing speed or the ball will shoot all the way across the green. ( Still trying to dial that in ) This club definitely has a permanent home in my bag!

I did a lot of research on the better chippers and looked at reviews from across a broad spectrum. Consistently, the Wilson Harmonized Chipper was listed among the best available. I am a Wilson Staff fan, but on the higher end, and have never used any of the Wilson Harmonized products. After careful review, I decided on the Wilson and I have not been disappointed. I am just beginning to swing a club a little after a shoulder replacement surgery. This little club is super easy top hit, is very accurate, and extremely consistent. I could have purchased a number of higher dollar clubs, but I do not feel any of them would out perform this club. I am very please with this club. It cannot be beat for value for money spent.

My husband has suffered with chipping in his golf game for the past 5 years, he went from a 9 handicap to 18 over a couple of years because of his chipping (its a mental game as most of us appreciate!!) he Lost interest because he couldn’t chip! As a last resort I bought this chipper for Xmas in the hope it might help his short Game! Well what can I say he genuinely hasn’t played for the last 5 months but his friend finally managed to get him out for a round and he used his new chipper and guess what he scored 46 points getting up and down every time! He is totally amazed and even he didn’t think he would manage to complete a round of golf without feeling devastated by his short game!! He can’t wait for his next round of golf!!! Thank you soooooo much!!!

For what this club will do for your golf if you are like me you would have paid ten times the price. So chippers are a bit like hybrids and are getting more and more popular. And for good reason. I pay somewhere in the region of £350-£400 for a new driver every two years and this is out of brand loyalty not for any massive gains in my game. Having taken what was really a Half hearted purchase on this I am humbled to say it is a game changer not just for me but for my friends who all flocked over to my bag to see what it was. If Taylormade suddenly came out with one for £160 I would question why pay that for it as this Wilson chipper is quality. It has a good weight to the head which allows for constant speed through impact to the ball and follow through even through taller grass and even the rough. The best thing about the design is that you take a putting stroke and not a chipping swing. The extra weight of the head adds the required punch to send the ball off the face so control is maintained throughout the stroke. I am buying a second one of exactly the same loft so that I can always have it in my bag if the other gets damaged or more likely borrowed by friends.

This club is very well made although not a premium quality paint finish. The grip is by Karakal. It is rounded and tapers slightly. It conforms to regulations. There is a distinct but very small sweet spot. It is easy to line up and is uncannily accurate. When practising I often hit the first ball with the second one. If you open the face slightly you get more loft and distance and it glides through the rough. My general chipping is quite good but I am better with this chipper and it is a real confidence builder. It invites experimentation and I look forward to pulling it out of the bag. I bought this for my wife but I have adopted it and just ordered a second one for her. All for £25.

Why does this review ask me to evaluate its warmth and thickness?! It's a golf club not an old friend ... It works well, seems well-made but the paint does come off easily. I am not bothered but if you are, suggest getting it a little cover - that way it will be nice and warm, which Amazon obviously feels is important

Great little chipper for around the greens, feel like a cheat having it in the bag as it makes chipping around the green too easy, good quality club and the grip is durable and comfy too.
