If there is the least bit twist or flex in the plastic ring then the door will bind when you try to screw it in or out. This was the hardest thing I installed on this boat. We built the whole boat so that should tell you something. These arrived with no install instructions, no mounting hardware, etc. Just a door thing. If I didn't care how it looked I could have used some PVC drain cleanouts and it would have been easier. When it's 10pm and you promised your little girl that you could launch the boat tomorrow you will be breaking your fingers trying to pry and beat that thing in and out while getting angry and covered in caulk. You have been warned! Other than this problem they look great and I hope they don't leak. We'll see.I can tell you that they're tough as nails and well made. They stand up quite well to repeated blows with a claw hammer and they still look good.

Beckson hatches work well and are reasonably simple to fit and install. The down side is that there are plastic and care needs to be given to install. Too much torque on any fastener may not cause a crack at the moment, but may crack in the future. I have owned over 60 boats and still own a dozen. Lots of these have had the Beckson hatches and you know up front that they may have a life span of about 10 years at best, between UV damage and cracks. Just something that you learn to live with...

I would have given this five stars if it was the quarter turn model. I thought that's what I was buying but ended up with the full scre out version. It's a great access plate.
