Compact, ergonomic case design is a result of the new internal, large capacity 1850 mAh Lithium Ion battery technology. This gives the radio a much smaller case design yet light enough to float face up if dropped in the water. If the radio falls in the water an emergency strobe light is automatically activated, even when the unit is turned off!!! The strobe can be reconfigured to flash on and off, flash SOS, or set to stay on continuously.

I have had 2 Std Horizon Hndhld VHFs prior to this one. Been excellent except 1st stolen while loading kayak. This one a disaster. Squelch allows it to give off loud static sounds 95% of the time. Squelch control useless. Kayak loses important stealth. During transmit and receive call is OK. *REVISED review. I accidentally dropped the unit that turned out to be a good thing. The squelch now works. I will definitely take precautions not to drop again. 3 kayak outings and battery only good for 5hrs even with no transmits. My old VHF was good for 3 kayak outings on 1 charge. Hx210 HUGELY DISAPPOINTING.

Bought an HX890. I had problems right out of the box. The HX890 is soooooo complicated. Could not figure out anything with the manual. Retinitis and bought the Hx 210 for half the price. Excellent! Everything I needed in a radio and easy to use with a simple to understand manual. Good sound. Great reception. Easy to see screen. Easy to use menu.

Please read the reviews and avoid buying this radio. After less than a week's use the screen has locked up and I am unable to use any of the buttons, receive or transmit, or turn off the radio to reboot it- the radio is now effectively useless. It seems to be a software issue, perhaps there is a bad batch of these radios going around, or perhaps they are all inherently faulty. I bought this radio to use at a remote wilderness site and I have been completely let down, not something you expect from a big name brand like Standard Horizon.

Just got this and played with it last night. Not far from a major river and about 15 miles from the coast. Picked up river traffic and Coast Guard easily along with a little ocean traffic. Instructions not bad but also used to cb. Also I can use the weather and FM channels during a hurricane.

Great for the price. It appears to be built tuff with features found in only in the best.
I have not tested the send/receive on the water yet - but my hopes and expectations are high.
Only thing I noticed is 'footprint' of radio is kind of 'beefy' for my average size hand.
I definitely would recommend!!

Printing error on pg 6 of operations manual leads to frustration for setting auto squelch. I’m still waiting for a stipend from S&H for finding the reason for bad reviews on a great produce. Send money to a charity in your neighborhood. DB

Works great. Holds a charge for multiple sailing trips. I think I only charged it once every few weeks. Sound is good. A little bulky to wear on a vest but it does float, that makes it bigger. I cant hear it clearly while sailing and it is in the cabin but I can hear that there is a transmission. Been using it for 3 months

Very useful on Patrols.

We own three SH radios now and use these everyday for work. Really like the reliability and quality and great features of these particular Standard Horizon radios.

Muy bueno se escucha muy claro y tiene un muy buen alcance comparado con otras marcas 100%recomendado
