I read many reviews before buying this bag, but the majority of reviews were from persons who were extremely satisfied and happy with their purchase. Now, I can add another 5 stars to the Piel Leather review. Purchasing this bag was not only a suitable investment, it was a treasure to find a beautiful, solid, durable leather bag at an sensible, affordable price. I was still somewhat skeptical after reading the reviews so I did some research and found out that Piel has a website which tells the history of leather goods they've been making for over 40 years. You don't get to make leather goods that long without perfecting your trade. With that said, the only thing I regret with this bag -- is not getting it shipped within 2 days. The anticipation nearly killed me. The quality of leather was superb. The bag's straps were quite sturdy and reinforced. It was said in some reviews that they were too long. The remedy for that is to take an ice pick, heat it up; mark the hole on the leather strap once you are sure where you want to place an additional hole, and carefully slide the ice pick through. Problem solved. The side pocket for your cell phone was just the right size for my Blackberry. The 2 large front pockets keep everything I need in reach, right where I can find it. The leather is buttery soft. The lining of the bag and the craftmanship was in no way sloppy. In short, I love my bag--I love it! It has replaced my pocketbook, and I do like the idea of having my hands free; especially when walking long distances. I'm sure that in time this leather bag will become more supple and soft as the leather breaks in and I hope to be able to write an additional review. This bag is a must have if you're looking for leather backpack that carries beauty and durability.
This is actually a really nice backpack. I ordered it but returned it because I liked the Clava backpack more. For me, it was about the pockets. On this bag the front pockets are just big holes, there is no separation inside them. They are very deep, so putting a few pens in there, they would all fall way down to the bottom of the pocket. There is really no place to put a water bottle - the front packets are not wide enough for it. The cell phone pocket was a little bit too small to fit my iPhone 5 - Not quite wide enough. So with the newer phones, that are even wider--- I don't know where you'd put it. In addition, this had the thinnest straps of any that I looked at, and I was worried about them holding up to heavy loads. For these reasons, it was returned and I kept the Clava backpack. But, if you aren't looking for those things specifically, then this one would probably be fine. Its roomy, nicely lined and the leather is soft.
I cannot say enough how AMAZING this backpack is and that I am so glad I decided to buy it! I purchased the chocolate. The color is so rich and beautiful. The leather is thick but buttery soft. It seems to be extremely durable. All the seams are securely stitched and straight. The buckle clasps are strong and secure. I read where several reviewers asked about keys....the keyholes are strictly aesthetic.
Okay so I've been carrying this backpack to school everyday since September and I love it. I wanted a backpack that could hold a lot of stuff (grad school) but look a little nicer than your typical Jansport. The leather is still so nice except for a few spots at the bottoms of the straps where it rubs on my back when I carry it. The buckles are fantastic (great for public transportation since it's difficult for anyone to pick pocket with these types of closures as opposed to zippers). I can fit two 1.5'' binders plus my laptop, laptop charger, umbrella, and some miscellaneous other items in the main pouch (it holds a lot of stuff). I can fit a handful of pens in one front pouch and I keep my wallet/phone in the other. There are also two zipper compartments inside the main pouch and on the main flap. I think that it's comfortable, but I did have to make two new holes in the shoulder straps in order to make them shorter since they stretched out pretty quickly. I am 5'3'' so anyone taller probably wouldn't have this problem. This is also great as a "personal item" carry on for flights. Fits a ton of stuff and looks nice/not as sporty as a regular backpack. Also, since it's leather, it's nice to know it will pretty much last forever as long as you don't leave it outside in the rain.
It is a beautiful bag and I intend to use it when travelling. I will be able to put my i-pad and a lot more in it. I love the bag and mostly I love the color.
Backpacks color is a really orange
