I've been camping since the '50's (yea, I was a kid then) so I'm no stranger to ALL sorts of cooking
I own 5 different size colemans (3 are dual fuel) - all outstanding - but not really backpacking stoves
Also, 2 different alcohol burners (like 'em but no flame control)
Which brings me to this little one: came with: multitool, empty fuel canister, nozzle for Kerosene, rubber cap to protect fuel inlet on stove, pump & all you need except fuel & lighter
Up to 9600btu/hr - competes with my colemans - even the 3burner
small- wide leg stance(when open)- good size pot rest (gsi mug fits, but keep an eye on it)
I think good flame control - but I'm not ham-fisted - tho I do have a minor tremor :) I ran it twice for about 20mins total burn (boiled 24oz cold water in 3-1/2mins) & it used maybe an inch of my 530ml bottle - all with white gas
I've got 2 - 530ml & 2 - 750ml bottles I use for white gas (camp fuel) I also use yellow heet for my alcohol stoves
That's 'bout it, 5 stars IMO
UPDATE still luv it but I realized that on my 750ml bottles the pickup filter wont reach near bottom when bottle is on the stand (its designed for the shorter 530ml bottles) - I resolved this by adding a piece of string trimmer fuel line(tygon) in the center of oem plastic line
I purchased this stove in april and used for a full season of backpacking, 10-11 trips.
This stove never let me down. Performance has been consistent from trip 1 to final. This stove is a burner, and when turned up will bring a quart of water to boil quickly; say 4 to 5 minutes. It does have an intermittent pause in the burn rate at times, but this usually works itself through in a matter of seconds. If not, I pump up the fuel pressure a quick 3 or 4 times and the issue is resolved. Not as nuanced as some hi-end (and more expensive) stoves on the low end of the cooking spectrum, but workable. One issue: I did have some minor fuel leakage with the included fuel bottle, and at 530ml it's capacity, based on my style of usage, is 3 days, 4 max. So I bought a 750ml MSR fuel bottle (it is compatible), and the leakage issue was resolved. Been doing this for years. Not my first trip to the rodeo. Good product.
good stove for the price, lots of power, but I wish it was easier to control the flame. very stable even with a cast iron wok on it. very loud, but all white gas stoves are. update: the stove is now leaking fuel from where the red knob attaches, I first noticed it when I realized the picnic table i was cooking on was on fire, still works fine with iso-butane, but I bought this primarily to use with white gas, so very disappointed in the durability of this stove.
If you have not used a stove like this before, make sure you are outside and on a non-flammable surface. Don't worry, I didn't catch anything on fire, but I don't want others to have an unhappy little accident. I use this stove for my packing trips out with my brothers and my son and his scout troop. As I grew up on white-gas, this is my stove of choice for lightweight powerful cooking.
Product is well designed. It is ultra light. Not so easy to keep consistent flame, but did eventually cook. Might be best as an emergency cooking source when the gas is t available.
I have run this stove on 89 octane on over 30 camping trips. Have yet to replace the seals or rebuild. Everyone told me the fuel would ruin it quickly. Not my experience. The only thing that frustrates me is the flame disk that snaps in the center falls off. I have to make sure its packed up. Other then that its a big WIN. Thank you
This arrived in about 3 days including newyears.
Filled 1/3 full and set up according to instructions. Pumped about 75 times. Lit on first try using wood match.
Pros Boiled 1L of water in 9 mins. start 50f. Easy to assemble. Easy to control flame output. Easy to store.
Cons The cap was on as tight as i gould get it but was bubling out fuel fumes slightly. Sat canister upright and it stopped. Havent figured out how to de-pressurize the canister besides opening top and exposing fumes. Lost the instruction manual.
Would recommend at this price. Will try on winter campout in couple of weeks and update results. Note: this was my first time using this type of product.
Totally blown away by this unit. Small, compact, easy to operate, we can use multiple gases in the fuel bottle, or we purchased a compressed canister and that works perfectly too. Just make sure all connections are tight. They even supply a wrench in the bag.
