(25.4 cm) when it's folded and fits inside a backpack. When you're ready to use it, the shovel folds out to 23 in. (58.42 cm) and easily locks into place for safety. During the winter, keep the shovel in your trunk to clear snow and ice in an emergency.

Our scouting group wanted a shovel for digging fire pits and removing hot coal and ash. For the price, this is a great shovel. Not what we use for backpacking (we have Coghlan trowels for 'cat holes') but great for base camp use. Have held up well and fold up easy enough to fit into our gear box. Sturdy handle and shaft allow you to put some weight into digging and allow to carry some weight easily.

I have been impressed with these so this winter I bought 2 for the family to keep in our cars in emergency. Luckily have not had to use them but they are small and out of the way when folded and stored in the trunk.

When making your essential emergency car kit or a basic camping kit a collapsible shovel is a must. The Coleman Folding Shovel fits the bill with its hardy construction and small, space saving, design. The shovel end folds up so it is compact, taking up very little room. Yet, when it is down, it locks in firmly and there is no worry about it collapsing on you as you dig into the ground or are transporting hot coals from one area to another. Haven't tried digging out a tire, yet, but have tried just digging into the ground and moving embers around. Love it! I don't think I will be digging trenches with it but it is a handy little tool to have, doesn't take up much space and beats using my hands but far!

Essential Tools for a successful camping trip
Multi-use hatchet/hammer
Multi-use pocket knife with flint
Folding Shovel
Twine/Jute/Thin rope
Duct tape (BIG roll)
Eating and cooking implements
With these items you can make any kind of camping fun and, relatively, smooth going. The hatchet and hammer, combo, comes in so handy. You need it to cut those limbs for the hot dog and marshmallow sticks. To split your kindling and the smaller logs for your fire. The hammer you can use to pound down the tent stakes or the tarp for that unexpected rain that will fall no matter what the weather forecast says is going to happen. The shovel is great for making fire pits, or cooler pits, for keeping the coals together and banking them for the night or spreading them out so you can easily douse the fire before you leave and cover the pit back up with dirt. The multi-use pocket knife is great for whittling the sticks small enough for marshmallows, has tweezers to get out those pesky splinters, pliers to pull out the hook lodged in the fish (or your hand). Flashlight and Lanterns are a must for night time, make sure you grab extra batteries and/or fuel. If using fuel be sure to also get extra mantels. A cooler is great if you aren't planning on digging a cooler pit. A bucket is a must for hauling the water, transporting the fish/crawdads, washing dishes, feet or the baby! The tarp can be used under the tent, over the tent or for a wind break. Twine/Jute will hold the tarp in place, the table cloth on the picnic table, the dog to the picnic table, the baby to the picnic table (just joking). Duct tape, a must have. It is water resistant. It will patch your tent, your tarp, your shoes, your coat. It, too, will hold your dog to the picnic table. Don't use it on the baby, to hard (and painful) to get off. Authorities frown on it. Unless you are really roughing it cooking over the fire is pretty hard, you can burn the hair off your arms (and your eyebrows depending on the height of the fire and the length of your arms) so get a camp stove and the right cooking implements.

This is a replacement shovel for an ice and snow. This is smaller in overall length when folded, than the single fold with wood handled ex-military shovel I loaned to a brother in an emergency. The all metal shovel and handle, with very little plastic, was a great surprise. No cover delivered with the shovel meant no cover was necessary for the shovel. I was surprised to agree with the reduction in unnecessary material. The size is small enough to fit behind the seat in my truck. The design is not like a real fiberglass long handled fifty-dollar plus shovel, but in an emergency, this little shovel will not give out under usage. The spade and length are not generous but again for an emergency and the cost I give this a high 9 (This ain't eBay for requiring 10s or 5s, as I can use a nine rating and the seller won't get concerned. I have heard the 40-character rule, Edgar Alan Poe might be capable ...). However, if one is to consider any real shoveling, purchase a longer handled shovel.
Isn't slander-less free speech a great thing for a democracy and for shopping replies, while we make millions for untaxed corporations. When will solar power prices be available for everyone?
B Al Gore's Leer Jet:

The fat metal part you see in the picture on the shaft? - yeah, that one, it's not big enough. So when you slide it all the way up - your shovel is going to close anyway on your first dig. It could be used to move ashes around in a fire pit, that's about it. I returned in within 15 minutes of opening the box. Buy yourself a stand US Military Issue E-Tool if you need to do more than build sandcastles with your shovel.

The price is right, so some of you will buy one anyway. I did, lol. But look for yourself when you do; extend the shovel, spin the clamp up the shaft until its very tight, and then grab the shovel and bend it, it will bend right back into it's folding position after defeating the little clamp. It needs a solid metal O-Ring / Washer above the clamp, or bigger arms on the shovel. A waste of time.

This item is cheap and does not perform its advertised function. You cannot use it as a shovel and there is no positive fit locking collar. AS soon as you extend the shovel the shovel blade collapses back and flops freely. There is no way to use this as advertised and you should immediately search for another product. Do not buy this item.

I had thought I was orderingh the discription and the picture, well i didnt get that. I got a little noname screw on shovel. That bends one the first use. Trying to let the seller know I messaged three times. I then was asked if I could send pictures, I did... Then it was send it back with special instructions. The bag is long gone by the time I got the last message. Still have not heard from seller. So her is my review dont buy unless you want a cheap bendable shovel that looks nothing like described or picture.

This shovel was easy to put together and to re-fold when done. Easy to store. Weight is good and very sturdy.

Bought 3 of them for 3, 7 year old boys to dig in the crater park diamond mine in south Arkansas. They worked great for finding all kinds of rocks other than diamonds ;) Compact, sturdy and functional. For a small shovel cant beat the price.

Tal vez fue mala suerte, pero la pala no funcionó, el sistema plegable nunca pudo colocarse en forma rígida. Me parece que el hecho de que tenga piezas móviles eventualmente puede terminar generando problemas como éste. El producto fue devuelto.

It’s a little on the heavy side, but I guess it needs to be in order for it to be durable.
No storage case was included.

It's strong, sturdy and has a good thick paint finish. Looks genuine Coleman to me since it came in original Coleman box with import sticker etc on it. Pan has Coleman logo Taiwan engraved on it. Folds nicely into compact size.

This is not original coleman shovel. They are cheating us.. Today i received the product and it looked ugly , no brand name mentioned anywhere... Just requested for return.. Dont buy this cheap product sold by king automotives.

Resistente, hay que saberla doblar. Me hubiera gustado que trajera una bolsa para meterla, para que no ensucie mochila o cajuela. Perfecta para camping en auto.

Shovel doesn't lock into place. Basically useless as anytime you try to apply any force at all the shovel folds over on itself.
