First walking stick I have owned, but I think this is a good one. I had expected fairly long threaded sections joining the parts of the pole, but in fact the threads are quite short. This is good because it makes connecting and disconnecting quicker. But short threads alone would be quite a weak join, which Yahill addresses by having an un-threaded solid stub that fits into the shaft above it, making a strong connection. The sections are held together with internal elastic cord. For all I know, these features are standard - as I said, this is a first for me, but it is an impressive design which will meet my needs.
These are the only trekking poles we could find with appropriate packing weight, and packing length short enough to take inside a carry-on bag. Certainly not the strongest or lightest, but definitely reasonable. That and the price really sold us, and the poles themselves are pretty sturdy. We have only used them a few times hiking (generally don't use the poles that often), but their small size makes them easy to carry. I've also used them to pitch some tarp shelters with good results. Since they don't telescope, the adjustment is limited in the shorter sizes, but that can be remedied by just removing segments.
Just what I needed. I have a bit of a balance problem as the result of back issues. This is much better than leaning on a cane....I can stand up straight and easily keep my balance while supporting my back in the proper position. It folds compactly for carrying but is strong when easily assembled. Plenty of adjustment as well. A very happy customer.
Love these poles! I compared specifications, price and reviews to similar, more expensive brands and am very happy with my money saving purchase!
It's very convenient, and just the size I need. My only complaint is, it tends to start coming unscrewed after thirty minutes or so, no matter how tightly I secure it. The inner elastic cable does keep it together, though.
The snowflake basket broke at the base the second use of the pole. Very disappointing. I wasn't doing anything you wouldn't do normally with a ski pole. The screw-on base tore away from the the basket making it useless. The other pole, with an original basket, has worked fine and never broke after dozens of uses and this broke on just the second outing. Not great quality. Just skiing normally should not a break a basket.
I purchased this trekking pole because I have back and right leg problems and wanted something that would be sturdy, lightweight and collapsible. I expect to pack in a small suitcasse or backpack when I go on vacation. It collapses very easily into 4 sections and fits into its own small bag. The sections reattach easily and fit securely together. My only caveat is that it is probably too long for anyone less than 5"1" tall. I am 5'1" and I have it set at the shortest height.
This was easy to lock into a stable position and adjust as necessary, unlike another similar trekking pole we purchased (and returned). It packed well for a trip to Peru and was perfectly reliable hiking the rough terrain and mountain trails in and around Machu Pichu (sp?).
This Duralumin 5 section pole - one adjustable unit within the handle unit - is light (300 gm) and easily deployed from folded state at 35cm, adjusting from 113 cm up to 137 cm fully open locked with an adjustable clamp. The the other four sections link together with elasticated cord and when screwed together, adjustable cone clutches at each joint make an integrated pole. Comes with a titanium steel tip masked by a removable rubber ferrule, a spare ferrule and a carry case.
This pole is certainly a lightweight and compact as I wanted.
I purchased this pole to help me walk when my arthritus is at it's worst. I found with walking sticks that I leaned towards the stick making the pain worse. The upright pole allows me to keep my back straight when walking. The pain is reduced. I actually ordered 2 and they are great. My only complaint is the length. I am 5' 7" and have the poles at the lowest setting meaning they will not reduce for uphill walking. Anyone shorter than that will find them a big problem. Other than that I love them
Feel sturdy and they lock up well to make a solid pair of walking sticks . Handles are nice and soft , strap adjusts easily . They come with spare rubber ends, plastic wide ends and a nice pouch for each. I'm 6'4" and the adjust to the correct hight easily for me. Worthwhile spending the extra few quid on these ones.
The pack of assorted tips are a perfect fit for other trecking poles I already had.
I bought a pair of these for my mum (58yo) as a present. She really loves them as they are lightweight and easily get in her small backpack, so now she uses them in parks on Sunday before going back into town for socialising with friends and shopping.
Extremely convenient to carry inside rucksack, light in weight and allows use when needed and then folded up small for ease of carriage when not in use
Good item, I got the model with the built-in shock absorber. Very impressed and folds down to a good size to fit in most rucksacks etc., handy having a bag with it. Highly recommended 5* - Hope to buy from you again.
A good pole for the price - seems well made and folds into small bag, easy to carry in my pack.
Not as sturdy as expected one section of one if tge poles does not screw in tight so rattles and doesnt give support as expected
Used for roughly 6 times a week over 2 months and the pole has failed with the cord holding parts together coning away and being unfixable. Very disappointed and I cannto see a link to get it returned for repai or replaced. Definitely a mediocre item
We love them!
Just what I need to keep in my rucksack at all times. Having MS makes me wobbly at times, but does not deter me from walking. So these now help - especially on holidays to avoid taking my rigid poles all the time.
Not tried yet but appearance is excellent and very easy to assemble. Traditional poles are a nuisance if you are scrambling or climbing as they are too large to fit in the back pack.
Bought for my husband for recent walking holiday. Absolutely fab. Folded down to small suitcase size. Robust on both concrete and grass. Would highly recommend.
